Welcome to Kindergarten at Noah Webster Schools!

Kindergarten is an exciting time for teachers, students and parents! Come Kindergarten, your child will be ready to take the world by storm! Your child will continue to work with the latest technologies along with tried and true teaching practices to better improve their education, enhance the curriculum they are learning and have fun while doing so.

During the school year, your kindergartner will venture away from the traditional classroom setting and discover new ways of learning by attending scheduled field trips. Accompanied by volunteered chaperones and teachers, field trips are a great way to transfer and apply the topics, subjects and overall curriculum taught in-class to the real world.

Kindergarten Curriculum

Math

In Kindergarten math, we promote the usage of math manipulatives to teach students math in a visually engaging way. We use Reveal Math from McGraw-Hill to teach students basic math concepts through:

Problem-based instruction
Small group interaction
Visual learning
Smart Board lessons
Hands-on learning
Interactive educational games

Student will learn:

Counting to 100 (forwards and backwards)
Identifying and writing numbers 0 to 100
Identifying 2D and 3D shapes
Place value
Addition within 10
Subtraction within 10
Addition and subtraction story problems
Identifying and create patterns
Calendar
Identifying coin names and value
Telling time to the hour
Comparing numbers (greater than, less than, equal to)
Sorting
Measurement
Skip counting to 100

Language Arts

Your child will learn partner, group and independent reading, while being reinforced to participate in at home reading as well. Language Arts incorporates spelling, phonics, grammar, writing and reading. At Noah Webster, we use Wonders reading program from McGraw-Hill for our comprehensive Language Arts curriculum.

Your child will learn partner, group and independent reading, while being reinforced to participate in at home reading as well. We incorporate our letter sounds, paired with the McGraw-Hill phonics, into the Kindergarten curriculum. Students will learn to read high-frequency words, CVC words, and words with blends.

We follow the McGraw-Hill manuscript to introduce and teach students the basics of penmanship. We also use Thinking Maps—visual tools used to map out thinking based on eight cognitive skills—throughout the school, providing a common visual language between students and teachers.

Students will learn to spell short/long vowel words, high-frequency words, and words with rules. They will also learn how to “write from the beginning” in which the student will draw a picture of an event, and then work on writing out a sentence, using inventive spelling, explaining what is happening in the picture.

At Noah Webster Schools, we follow PASI. Also known as Phonological Awareness Screener for Intervention, PASI is used to teach and assess Kindergarten students on the following:

Rhyming
Words in a sentence
Phoneme segmenting
Blending
Syllables
Categorization
Beginning and ending sounds
Deletion and addition of beginning, middle, and ending sounds
Long/short vowel sounds
Story comprehension

Social Studies

Through an introduction to civics, geography, economics, and history, kindergarten students will understand their roles and responsibilities as citizens within their own context. Students will also learn about their own culture and how it impacts understanding of oneself and others as well as be introduced to aspects of our National culture, the importance of rules and responsibilities, individual roles in a community, personal decision-making, and American symbols, holidays, and traditions.

Science

In Kindergarten, students use their senses to help them make observations about the world around them. Students will investigate how the senses detect light and sound, observe weather patterns and their influences on plants and animals, and differentiate between systems and structures of living and non-living things.

Specials

Physical Education

All students participate in physical education classes at least once a week. Classes focus on competency of motor skills and performance of physical activities in order to achieve and maintain health-enhancing levels of fitness. Positive social interaction is embedded into instruction while promoting the value of physical activity.

Music

All students participate in music classes at least once a week. Students create meaning and expression through the use of listening, performing and improvisational skills. Students are introduced to the elements and theory of music and musical instruments.

Art

Noah Webster Schools has implemented Art Masterpiece to introduce artists and styles from diverse cultures and time periods. Students are taught to use classic and modern techniques in order to create artwork to communicate ideas, meanings, and/or purposes.

Kindergarten Supply List

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! The kindergarten teaching team would like to welcome you to kindergarten. We look forward to meeting you at Open House prior to the first day of school. At Open House you will be able to find out who your child’s teacher is and meet them. Open House is also a time when you can learn about other activities and services provided by the school such as transportation, food services, aftercare, and after school programs. Stay tuned for more information via email regarding Open House.

Below you will find the supply list for kindergarten. If your teacher needs additional items, they will inform you throughout the school year. In addition, prior to sending in any items not listed on the supply list, please check with your child’s teacher.

Please remember to label all of your student’s personal belongings (jacket, water bottle, backpack, and lunch box) with first and last name. This will help locate them should items become misplaced.

As the first day of school approaches we have parents ask us if there is anything that they can do to help get their child(ren) ready for kindergarten. Below you will find a helpful list of things that you may work on with your child(ren) to help ensure they are prepared for their first day of school.

Properly blow their nose
Wash their hands, good hygiene practices
Hold a pencil correctly
Hold scissors properly and cut with scissors
Pack and unpack backpack by themselves
Identify shapes
Identify colors
Say the ABC’s
Count together with your child to practice verbal counting skills

On the first day of school, while I was walking down the hall, I was kind of nervous because it was a new school. But when I walked in the classroom, I recognized some people I already knew, and that made me feel a bit better.

I have learned so many things this year, such as integers, Ancient Greece, and oxymorons. I have also learned things that will help me be a better person. I learned that respect is one of the most important qualities to have in life. My teacher is wonderful. She has empathy (most of the time) for us. She knows what it’s like to be in different kinds of situations, she knows how to cheer someone up, or make them feel regretful (when we misbehave). She understands our problems and gives us advice on how to solve them, whether it’s from personal problems to math or reading problems.

We went on a lot of field trips this year. My favorite one was the Water Day field trip at the Mesa Campus! We got to go on different water slides. I had so much fun sliding down the 40 foot tall Rhino slide and high-fiving everyone when I reached the bottom!

Everyday has been a different day, which I enjoy. I will always remember my experience in 6th grade here at Noah Webster Schools.
