Pre-Kindergarten

Welcome to Pre-K at Noah Webster Schools!

Pre-Kindergarten is a time for your child to begin learning what is means to be a student in a classroom environment. For many, this will be the first time they are away from their home for a long period of time. Our teachers and staff understand the importance of making your child feel as comfortable and confident as possible, ensuring he or she is able to succeed to their highest potential!

Students must be 4 years old on or before December 31, 2025 to be eligible for the 2025-2026 program.  Schools hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  with before care starting at 7:00 a.m. and after care available until 6:00 p.m.  Transportation is not provided for Pre-Kindergarten students; therefore, other arrangements will need to be made.  Pre-K students must be signed in and out of the classroom each day.

Pre-K Curriculum

Our Pre-Kindergarten program is developed from our Kindergarten curriculum and complies with Arizona State Standards. This gives students a jump start into what they will be learning in Kindergarten.

Our math program is guided by Pre-K and Kindergarten Standards. We promote the usage of math manipulatives to teach students math in a visually engaging way. We use Reveal Math from McGraw-Hill to teach students basic math concepts through:

Problem-based instruction
Small group interaction
Visual and hands-on learning

Students will learn:

  • Counting to 100
  • Identifying and write numbers 0 to 20
  • Identifying 2D and 3D shapes
  • Place value
  • Addition within 5
  • Subtraction within 5
  • Identifying and create patterns
  • Calendar
  • Greater than, less than, equal

At Noah Webster, Pre-Kindergarten students will develop their skills in language arts, focusing on penmanship, spelling, writing, Thinking Maps, and reading.

We use McGraw-Hill manuscript to introduce and teach students the basics of penmanship. Our teachers also use Thinking Maps—visual tools used to map out thinking based on eight cognitive skills—throughout all grade levels, providing a common visual language between students and teachers.

Students will learn to spell short/long vowel words, high-frequency words, and words that contain specific spelling rules. They will develop their writing skills through “Write from the Beginning,” Noah Webster Schools core writing program that teaches students the various traits of effective writing. Your child will draw a picture of an event and “write” a sentence to match the drawing. The “writing” will vary depending on the developmental stage of writing that your child is at.

PASI, also known as Phonological Awareness Screener for Intervention, is used to introduce and assess Pre-Kindergarten students on the following:

  • Rhyming
  • Syllables
  • Categorization
  • Beginning and ending sounds
  • Deletion and addition of beginning, middle, and ending sounds
  • Words in a sentence
  • Phoneme segmentation
  • Blending
  • Letter recognition
  • Letter sounds

Positive social interaction is embedded into instruction while promoting the value of physical activity.
